When is Halloween 2022? Here's when (and why!) we celebrate the spooky season.

The event, which many people celebrate with pumpkin carving and sugar overload, falls on the same date every year: October 31.

According to the History Channel, Halloween sprang from the ancient Celtic feast of Samhain. The Celts thought that on October 31, the lines between the worlds.

Ghosts would return to earth as the living and dead realms merged. Celts created Samhain to ward off impure spirits with bonfires and costumes.

Later, Pope Gregory III declared November 1 All Saints Day, a commemoration of all earthly deities. All Hallows Eve preceded it. Celtic and All Hallows Eve customs merged to create contemporary Halloween.
